My mom's book club met today to discuss the book/dvd An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore. I tagged along because it's a movie I had wanted to see for a while...and I was blown away. It's a movie I wish everyone in the US could see...and take to heart. It opened my eyes and truthfully scared the crap outta me. Global warming is happening and it's happening faster than I thought. Throughout the dvd, not only did Mr. Gore give compelling evidence but also showed scientific facts and figures to back it up. He really put a lot of time, energy and money into what he is doing.
What makes me sad is that there are many in this country who wouldn't even consider watching this dvd or reading the book because it was written by a Democrat. This is NOT a political issue...it's a moral one. While it would be ideal that the US began to force laws that would create a better environment and overall living experience, the reality is that the oil companies control too many politicians...and have too much money.
My generation has such a responsibility to begin to make huge changes in the way that we live. We are living in a dark time....although it is not a unique dark age, it is dark nonetheless. As the dvd said, we are no longer living in an age of what could happen...we are living in the age of consequences.
Where do we begin? I have no clue. But I am prayerful that we pull our heads out of the sand and strive to make changes that will only benefit our earth instead of systematically destroy it.
